What audio formats does MineVinyl support?
MineVinyl accepts most common audio formats: MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, M4A, AIFF, and more. Files are automatically converted to OGG Vorbis — the only format Minecraft's sound engine supports — entirely in your browser before being packed. See the supported formats guide for a full list and tips on getting the best quality.
Which Minecraft versions are supported?
MineVinyl supports Java Edition from 1.6 through the latest release. Select your version from the dropdown — the tool automatically sets the correct pack_format in pack.mcmeta and shows only the disc slots available in that version. Bedrock Edition uses a different resource pack structure and is not currently supported.
Are my audio files uploaded to a server?
No. All audio processing happens in your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device. MineVinyl has no upload endpoint — there is nothing to upload to.
How do I install the generated resource pack?
After downloading the .zip file, move it (do not unzip it) to your Minecraft resource packs folder. On Windows this is typically
%AppData%\.minecraft\resourcepacks. Then open Minecraft, go to Options → Resource Packs, and enable your new pack. See the full installation guide for step-by-step instructions and Bedrock notes. The pack downloaded but Minecraft says it's incompatible. Why?
This almost always means the pack_format version doesn't match your game version. Make sure you select the version in the MineVinyl dropdown that matches the Minecraft version you're running. If you're on a snapshot, try the closest stable release version. See the troubleshooting guide for more common causes.
Can I assign the same song to multiple discs?
Yes. Upload the file once to any slot, then upload it again (or drag and drop) to additional slots. Each disc slot is independent.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no server-side limit because files never reach a server. The practical limit is your browser's available memory. Very large files (over ~200 MB) may cause the conversion to slow down or fail on low-memory devices. For best results, keep individual tracks under 50 MB before conversion.
The conversion is stuck or failed. What should I try?
First, try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows/Linux, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac) to clear any cached state. If a specific file keeps failing, try converting it to MP3 or WAV first using a tool like Audacity or HandBrake, then uploading the converted version. See the full troubleshooting guide for more fixes.
Does this work with Fabric, Forge, or other mod loaders?
Yes. MineVinyl generates a standard Minecraft resource pack — the same format the vanilla game uses. It works alongside any mod loader because resource packs are applied at the game layer, above mods. No configuration needed.
Is MineVinyl free? Will it stay free?
MineVinyl is free and will remain free. The site is funded by unobtrusive banner advertising. If you find it useful, the best way to support it is to share it with other players.
